Alluding to both punishment and purification, this installation burns the artist's menstrual blood mixed with sandal wood incense powder to produce scented smoke and leave stigmata-like traces on the installation floor. The burning and subsequent stains left on the floor evoke a sense of stigma(ta) with its both corrupting and sacred associations, while simultaneously linking them to moxibustion, a traditional Chinese healing practice adopted throughout East Asia that warms meridians and improves the flow of blood and qi.
